Hamilton for Congress sends text messages only to people who agree to receive them. There are two ways to agree: by saying yes to a volunteer on a live phone call, or by checking the consent box on our website's text sign-up form. This page shows exactly how each one works.
How You Join
1. On a live phone call
- A volunteer from Hamilton for Congress phones you. Every call is placed by a person. We do not use an automatic dialer.
- After the purpose of the call is complete, the volunteer asks if it is okay to send you a text message and reads the words shown below.
- A text message is sent only if you say yes. If you say no, or do not answer the question, no text message is sent.
- The volunteer records that you said yes in our calling tool. The tool will not send a text message without that confirmation, and it keeps the confirmation with the record of the call.
- We never send a text message after a person asks us not to call them or tells us we have the wrong number.
2. On our website
You can complete the text sign-up form with your name, email address, and mobile number. The consent box is never checked for you. You must check it yourself, and the form cannot be submitted without it. Next to the box we state who the messages are from, what they contain, that message frequency varies, that message and data rates may apply, how to stop with STOP and get help with HELP, that we do not share your mobile number or opt-in data for marketing, and links to our Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions.
Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of any purchase, donation, or participation in the campaign.
What Our Volunteers Say
Volunteers read this before any text message is sent:
“Before we go, may I send you one text message from Hamilton for Congress with voting information and ways to volunteer? We typically send one text per call, and it will not ask for donations. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP at any time to stop, or HELP for help. We do not share your mobile number or your consent with third parties for marketing. Our privacy policy and terms are at hamiltonforcongress.com. Is it okay if I text you?”
What We Send
Our text messages contain campaign, voting, or volunteer information, such as a link to learn more or details about ways to get involved. They do not ask for donations. Message frequency varies. After a live call, you should expect typically one follow-up text message per call. Examples:
Hamilton for Congress: Thanks for talking with us today! Learn more about Josh’s campaign and ways to get involved at hamiltonforcongress.com. Msg&data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help.
Hamilton for Congress: Great speaking with you. Here is the link we mentioned to learn about volunteering: hamiltonforcongress.com/get-involved. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help.
Stopping and Getting Help
- To stop: Reply STOP to any text message. You may also reply STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT. You will receive one message confirming that you are unsubscribed, and no further texts after that.
- For help: Reply HELP to any text message, or contact us using the details below.
- To rejoin: Reply START to our number, or tell one of our volunteers on a future call.
- Cost: Message and data rates may apply. We do not charge for text messages.
